Basketball and Liturgy

Liturgy Class

I had a great evening as I attended the first part of a five part class centered on the Liturgy of the Mass. We have quite a lively group along with one of our local Deacon's attending the class who is never slow to raise issue with our instructor who is a lovely women and the widow of Deacon of a from a mostly Black parish in San Antonio. She recounted Sundays Mass where her and the choir along with the praise dancers from her parish celebrated Mass at Our lady of the Lake College this weekend. The students were introduced to the cultural differences and how they affect your experience of the Mass, all why not changing the Liturgy of the Mass. This of course sparked off debated amongst the group with the Deacon and I mostly having issue with the instructors definition of a couple of things. I went back and read my notes after class trying to formulated an argument to present at our next class that would show her point of view to be incorrect but after examination of my notes I think her argument was well founded. I however did not think she did a great job of expressing her definition of Liturgy even will given it a sound definition.

She defined Liturgy as the the official communal works of the Mass. With that being said I don't think adding cultural parts being instituted in and around the Mass would have an ill affect on her definition of official communal works... With that being said I felt that her weakness was her definition of what Mass is. Mass must be made up of the official communal works, which I have no problem with. Where the water got murky for me was with the traditions or customs with a lower case t which clearly are being added to the Mass or are they. When does the Mass end and begin for her it was way outside of what I would consider the end, I say it ends when the Deacon proclaims it. Not for her it is over I am not exactly sure but some where shortly after receiving communion. This part of the argument will be continued at the next meeting with the help of the Roman Missal and the G.E.R.M along with the Deacons and the instructors sage point of views, to help shed light on the matter at hand. I however feel that she keep stating that these lower case traditions are not affecting the Liturgy of the Mass, a point a have no argument with at this time. I do feel however that they are affecting the Mass which for is made up of the Liturgy of the Mass, but what else. So the question then is the Mass. Which is made up of the Liturgy of the Mass and capitol Traditions if so what. I am however still forming a view on this subject at hand but I think my question will have to be for her define what Mass is and what Mass is not in respect to lower case traditions/customs. She has surely endured many attacks on argument and still is left with this point of view. I surely would be better off for taking a closer examination of her stance.

I must point out how blessed I feel to amongst a group of peers along with an instructor that have left me wanting for class not to end. I certainly will do some reading before next class in hopes to not to be left behind when things are sure to heat up again.

Basketball

I was also able to get out of class soon enough to make the last period of my son O.P.'s basketball game. They won 28-11 I believe. They have a record of seven wins, two losses with one game still to play. Go Golden Dragons! We did of coarse stop at DQ to get our celebratory ice cream.

Holy Moly the Battery is Finally Charged

Holy Moly the Battery is Finally Charged!

It only took 70hrs but my battery is finally charged courtesy of my NOCO Genuis G3500 charger. I think I really had it discharged and my month old Exide deep marine cycle battery took a long time to get fully juiced. Now its time to get it hooked up to the fence charger and solar panel. I think this will help keep the offending party contained as I know it trained the neighbors puppies already to keep out.

Finally Charged After 70 Hours

The Rig

Renogy 30 watt solar panel mounted to a portable dolly made right here in the USA by the fine folks at Kencove Farm Fence Supply. I like the fact that its mobile and easy to move around along with you can adjust the angle of the panel with two bolts. I set my panel facing south at 30 degrees as my I'm located at 29degrees18'53'' North. However with summer coming I might lower the degree of angle to accommodate the suns path moving north of us for most of the day.

Renogy Solar Charge Controller

Patriot P30 Fence Charger

Bigger is definitely better, as most solar/battery fence chargers are rated by the distance coverage. While this is important and the charger might actual cover the distance stated the shock it throws out is so week the animals dont even care. That's why I went with a charger rated for 65 miles of fence when it is only having to operated currently on a 1/2 mile of single strand fence. I had an all in one charger with solar panel that was rated at 5 miles, 0.1 joules and it would hardly shock you under the best of conditions (no grounding out through grass or what ever, 6 grounds rods driving 8ft in the ground as this South Texas and it is Dry 350 days out of the year and I also ran aluminum wire, as is it more conductive or less resistance than galvanized and with all that said I was more afraid of a 9v battery shock on the tongue. Now this new Patriot P30 charger from Valley Farm Supply has a rating of 3.0 joules and 65 Miles and seems to trow at a good spark. The draw back is, making sure you have enough battery reserves to supply that power hunger device. That's why opted for the large 12v deep cycle marine battery and the largest solar panel allowed. Coupled with the Texas sun I think I will be in good shape.

PIG PEN

Foggy Morning

Sheep's Pen or Pig's Pen?

Fixed the Loose Rails

24 hrs later and still not at 75 percent charge!

I was able to get a little work done after attending late Mass and having a nice lunch with our friends at Castroville Cafe. Sure am hoping the battery will be fully charged by the time I get off work tomorrow, I must of really run it into the ground as the charging guide said it should take about 18hrs to fully charge but it is looking like it will be double that. Think goodness it is only a month old.

I'm Back

So I have not posted in well over a year and I often find myself thinking about posting again. The truth is I really let things slide around our place and am hoping by posting on the blog will reinvigorate myself. I am planning on taking on a small project today, hooking up my new 12volt deep marine electric fence charge up to a solar panel. I bought a portable dolly to support this contraption so if I decide to move it around for some temporary fencing in the future I also need build a temporary electric fence behind the back of the house to contain the sheep as our ram is starting to become a nuances.

I got the dolly together along with the solar panel and controller all hooked up. However the controller said the battery was over discharged (due to the fact that I already had it hooked to the fence energizer) so I opted to bring the battery in for the night and to charge it.
